The FAMILY SERIES is intended for young children (suggested ages 3 to 8) whose sibling has been diagnosed with a serious health condition. In each story, we introduce a range of issues, reactions, and emotions that are commonly experienced by healthy sibling(s). We hope that these books will help you talk openly with your children about the impact that your child’s illness or health challenge has had on your whole family—particularly on the siblings who do not have the health challenge. The FAMILY SERIES was written by Lindsay Beane, DrPH, whose second child was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis as a baby, when his older brother was only 4 years old. Finding no books on the topics of siblings and illness, Lindsay and her older son (now 32 and a father himself) wondered about creating a book themselves. Tracey Elizalde, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, provided medical consultation, and the series is illustrated by C.J. Love.
